What is your diet like?

My diet can be described as high protein, moderate carbs, moderate to low fat.  I usually post my diet (pre-contest and offseason) on my blog at www.jrod123.blogspot.com

Here is an example of my diet.  This was from my last show, 8 weeks out of the 2009 Team Universe:

Where does your motivation come from?

Myself and enjoying training.  When I started training, it was never about wanting to look better or look like someone I had seen in a magazine.  I simply enjoyed lifting weights.  Of course, now that I’ve gotten into bodybuilding, there are people whose physiques I admire, but it still comes down to the fact that I simply enjoy the bodybuilding lifestyle and working out.

When trying to cut down do you prefer to use HIIT or just normal cardio?

I do something a little closer to HIIT.  My cardio sessions last between 15-20, and once in a while 25 minutes.  As I decrease the time, I increase the intensity.  Further out from the show, I am more likely to keep the intensity very high and duration short, but as the show gets closer, I pay more attention to how I’m feeling and sometimes cut back a bit on the intensity and increase the duration.

What is your supplementation like?

The supplements I take are as follows:
Species Isolyze (whey protein isolate), Species Carbolyze (waxy maize), Species Macadamia nut oil, glutamine, creatine, bcaa. Except for the macadamia nut oil, I have the above supplements before and after training.

Plans for the future?

My goal is to win the overall at the NPC Team Universe.

Favourite Natural Bodybuilders?

When I first got into bodybuilding I admired Jeff Willet and Skip La Cour.

Favourite Quote?

By Andreas Munzer:

“…we too easily deceive ourselves into thinking we’re exerting enough effort.  To take ourselves over the top, enough is never enough.  Only more than we ever thought possible is enough.”
