Musclemania Pro Logan Michael’s Talks With Simplyshredded.com

How did you get started with bodybuilding?

I got started when I was about 16 years old with my first bodybuilding magazine. I remember it was a FLEX magazine with Lee Haney on the cover. After seeing the pics of Lee and Rich Gaspari and how super vascular they were I was immediately hooked.

I also remember being inspired by Superman and the famous Superman pose, I wanted to look like that.

Where does your motivation come from?

My motivation comes from surrounding myself with positive influences and the desire I now have to possess one of the best natural physiques in the world.

What workout routine has worked best for you?

After 26 years of working out I now use a more instinctual method of training. If I feel like doing chest one day I will, if I feel like doing 5 sets and exercises I go for it. Usually I stick to a two day on one day off schedule. I use the mirror as a constant guide. The rest of my week could vary depending on mood or energy. As I said, INSTINCT!

Sample Routine

Monday: Legs

  • Leg extensions 3 sets 12-15 reps
  • Leg Press 4 sets 15 reps
  • Leg Curls 4 sets 12 reps
  • Lunges 3 sets
  • Calf Raises 4 sets 15 reps
  • Seated Calf 4 sets 15 reps

Tuesday: Chest/Triceps

  • Incline Smith Machine Press 4 sets 12 reps

  • Decline Press 3 sets 12 reps

Friday: Back/ Biceps

  • Wide Grip Chins 3 sets 12 reps
  • Barbell Shrugs 3 sets 20 reps
  • Bicep curls 4 sets 12 reps
  • Dumbell Curls 3 sets
  • Cable Curls (rope) 3 sets

Saturday: Abs

  • Hanging leg raises
  • Rope crunches
  • Torso Twist Machine 3 sets 25 reps on all exercises

If you have to pick only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?

  1. Bench press: Nothing feels better than pushing a load of weight off of your chest and feeling the contraction at the top, not to mention varying your grip to hit the pecs from different angles.
  2. Side lateral raises: I love this move because it is fully responsible for the cap I have developed on my delts.
  3. Lunges: When done properly they can really fry you hams and glutes. Weighted is best for me but after a grueling leg session body weight is almost just as good.

What is your diet like?

My diet is also pretty instinctual but this is a sample of what I usually do just before a contest…

  • Meal 1: 1\2 cup oatmeal, 10-12 egg whites, 4 strips of turkey bacon
  • Meal 2: Protein shake 40g of protein
  • Meal 3: Garden salad with 8-10oz grilled chicken,
  • Meal 4: 8oz. lean sirloin with 1 cup green veggies
  • Meal 5: Protein shake 40g.
  • Meal 6: 10oz. lean beef, chicken, turkey or fish, 1 cup green veggies

Every 2nd day I replace meal 3 with a carb meal such as wheat pasta or sweet potato or brown rice.

When trying to cut down do you prefer to use HIIT or just normal cardio?

Lately for trimming up I have mixed HIIT and stair sprints for cutting and have achieved some great results.

I am really starting to enjoy doing cardio because at this point I know it is close to showtime and my focus is dead on.

What is your supplementation like?

I like to keep my supplements very simple:

  • Creatine
  • L-argenine
  • N.O
  • Glutamine
  • Whey Protein
