How did you get started with bodybuilding?
I started working out in March of 2006 when I was a junior in high school, just trying to add some muscle for my senior year of lacrosse. It was when I got into college that I discovered bodybuilding…a couple of friends of mine told me to compete and give it a shot, so I did and even though I placed last in my class I as immediately hooked and just wanted to keep improving. I am now in training for the INBF Northern States Supernatural on March 20th, 2010 where my main goal would be to earn a WNBF Pro Card.
Where does your motivation come from?
Motivation seems to come easy for me. With bodybuilding, every day is another chance to be better than your previous self. Keeping my goals in mind allows me to have something to try and achieve. When I’m in the gym training I get my motivation mainly from hard rock music, but I’ll lift to anything from country to rap depending on what I’m training that day and what mood I’m in.
What is your training philosophy?
I like to train heavy with high volume. I typically train each bodypart once per week, so I have to obliterate each one when I have the chance, while keeping good form. I’ve also recently incorporated some FST-7 training at the ends of my workouts, where I choose an isolation exercise and do 7 sets of 12 reps with 30 seconds rest in between each set.

If you have to pick only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?
- Squat – People are always asking how to grow their quads/legs, and in the meantime they’re avoiding the squat rack by any means necessary. I find low, heavy squatting has given me the most results for my legs. The rush you get when you go to put the weight on your shoulders is like nothing else, it’s really a love-hate relationship.
- Pull-Ups – As simple as they are, they really can contribute to lat development just as well, if not better, than anything else when done correctly. Add some weight and you can add some serious size.
- Incline Bench Press – Upper chest is an area many people need to improve on, so rather than focusing on flat bench press I think incorporating incline bench can help develop this problem-area. You can’t press as much weight, but in the end it’s more beneficial.

When trying to cut down do you prefer to use HIIT or just normal cardio?
I like to use HIIT because it burns more fat and utilizes your time better. If you’re going to do your cardio, you might as well do it 100%.
What is your philosophy on nutrition?
Nutrition is the biggest part of bodybuilding. I’d say it’s even more important than the training aspect. Personally, I have a very fast metabolism so in the off-season I need to eat all the time and even take in fast-food occasionally in an attempt to put weight on. Dieting for a show, my macronutrients are: 220g carbs, 250g protein, and 45g fats…then on refeed days I up my carbs to 400-450g and decrease my fats to 35g.
What are your favorite meals and foods?
In season, my favorite meal is some tilapia with fat-free parmesan cheese on it, brown rice with mild salsa, and a few smokehouse almonds.
Favorite cheat food?
I don’t incorporate cheat foods into my diet when I’m in training for a competition, but on re-feed days I eat Cracklin Oats Cereal and it’s absolutely AMAZING.
What supplements do you use that give you great results?
I use a whey protein, creatine, and GENr8 Vitargo. I have a whey shake in the morning, and immediately post-workout. Creatine is taken pre-workout, and Vitargo is taken pre, during, and post-workout. The Vitargo is amazing in that I can consume 210g of carbs from it along with my whole food carbs when dieting, and still see extreme results and fat-loss.
Which era of bodybuilding had superior physiques? Yesterdays Bodybuilders Or Todays?
Todays. Compare the physique of Jay Cutler to that of Franco Columbo or even Sergio Oliva. There really is no comparison. Sure, the bodybuilders of yesterday were more ‘aesthetically’ pleasing, but if we are talking pure superiority then the size and conditioning of today’s bodybuilders cannot be matched.

Favourite Bodybuilders?
My favorite pro bodybuilder is Jay Cutler, as cliché as that may be. He is Mr. Olympia for a reason. His work ethic is nothing short of amazing and he is an awesome ambassador for the sport. Also gives his all in the gym everytime he trains, and I admire that intensity. My favorite amateur is Tamer El Guindy..He’s SHREDDED and he knows it. He could be a serious heavyweight threat but decides to stay true his nickname ‘The Razor’ and comes in conditioned at every show.
