Interview With John AKA AloneIStand

1528602orig_2_How did you get started with bodybuilding?

I started weightlifting when I was 19 years old because my dad and brother were really into it. I ended up falling in love with it, and it just became an addiction. I was able to add alot of muscle, but I never truly sculpted my muscles the way I always wanted. I didn’t get real serious about bodybuilding part of it (weight training, nutrition, cardio) until I was almost 35. I realized that if I ever truly wanted to attain the physique I always dreamed about, it was time to get started.

Did you have a bodybuilding coach help you get started?

No, all of my training I’ve have learned and done on my own. I have researched various bodybuilding books and magazines, and talked to various people who seemed to know what they were doing, and I kind of just took it from there.

So what is the bodybuilding training routine that you use to have that killer physique?

I train with weights intensely 5 days a week, do cardio 4-5 days a week, and follow a very strict eating plan. For my full detailed workouts visit my Workout Blog on bodybuilding.com

When trying to cut down do you prefer to use HIIT or just normal cardio?

I am a big believer in HIIT cardio. I do it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, and then I don’t eat for at least an hour afterward. I find it to be the best way to lose bodyfat and remain lean.

What is your Diet/Supplementation like?

I eat 6-7 smaller, clean meals a day. And I usually cycle my complex carbs. I’ll usually eat a small amount of complex carbs 3 days in a row (75-100 grams), and then I’ll carb up on the 4th day (250-300 grams). This seems to be the best way for me to keep the body fat off while I maintain my lean muscle, and maintain energy in the gym. The only supplements I use are Whey Protein, and L-Glutamine. I usually have Whey Protein in 3 of my meals each day, and I also take about 15 – 20 grams of L-Glutamine a day to help keep my immune system strong, and also to keep my lean muscle mass from wasting away.

DSC02060_2_As a natural bodybuilder, what is your view on steroids?

It’s totally a personal choice. First of all, I do not believe in using any illegal substances just to improve my physique. If it’s illegal, you are breaking the law. In my mind, if you are taking steroids or HGH, you are taking a short cut and cheating in a way. I know I may sound like a hypocrite because I like Stallone and Hogan, both who have been linked to steroids and HGH. But believe me; I was disappointed, but not exactly shocked, when I learned about their usage. That was their personal choice to use, and it’s mine not to use. Also, I work out alone at the gym. I know I’m not the biggest or strongest guy in the gym, but I bust my @ss as hard, if not harder than most guys in there. I pyramid my sets and my last rep of each set is usually to failure, and then I incorporate an extra drop set or two, or x-reps that most people at the gym don’t want to do because it requires you to really push yourself.

Plans for the future?

I’m seriously thinking about entering my first natural competition soon. If I don’t do it by the end of this calendar year, I’ll definitely look to do one in 2010 for sure.
