Interview With Brett Freeman

How did you get started with bodybuilding?

first_place1Quite cliche I’d say, but it was the simple case of being over weight and picked on during high school. Low self esteem brought about an urge or desire to change my life style. Since then I haven’t looked back and it’s been history ever since. Never imagined competing so early, so there’s some hope for those who think they’re not ready! You are!

What is your current training routine?

In the past I relied heavily upon powerlifting principles. Compounds in the 3-5 rep range with accessory work following. This has brought about the best growth as I believe deeply that Naturals need to move HEAVY weight in order to pack on size. Not necessarily an opinion, but a fact , any Natural Pro out there will be seen moving quite the weight in the gym. In summary, I train primarily in the 3-5 rep range with compounds followed by accessory work ranging typically from 6-12 reps. More or less a split someone such as Layne Norton, Eric Helms, or Alberto Nunez used.

When trying to cut down do you prefer to use HIIT or just normal cardio?

In this sport there are no games of absolutes! Everybody becomes caught up in the simple fact of what’s “better” when there essentially isn’t. If there were a perfect routine for him and her everybody would be walking around at stage level body fat. But to answer the question, I use a mixture of both HIIT and LISS cardio when dieting down for a show. Two sessions of both equaling a total of 4 cardio sessions per week.

What is your Diet like?

In season I dieted on 55g fat, 190g cho, 230g pro with two refeeds consisting of 50g fat, 335g cho, 200g pro and 50g fat, 300g cho, 200g pro. On the flip side of things I am currently off season with numbers such as 100g fat 525g cho 200g pro. My food sources range typically from anything that will fit into my macros. That being said I am a fan of breakfast cereals, pancakes, whey protein, chicken breasts, eggs, milk, whole wheat bread, naturally more peanut butter, and the magic pop tarts Who said bodybuilders had to eat chicken and oats?

What is your supplementation like?

gfjfgj_012This’s another thing that many people (such as myself) become caught up in. Supplements are only there to lend a helping hand , not become the back bone of. With that said throughout prep many were mind boggled when I told them I had only used Scivation whey. I’m a fan of keeping it simple stupid and saving money that I don’t have lol!

Plans for the future?

Bodybuilding wise I’m taking 2 years off and competing next in the 2011 WNBF Worlds. Aside from that I want to get myself back in School onwards to a degree. In what, Im uncertain of, but moving forward is what’s needed.
